Gruelling 2-hour train ride to Kaduna

I and two of my colleagues – Maryam Ahmadu Suka and Abubakar Auwal, left our hotel room in Abuja around 8.30am and arrived Idu Train station at 9.05am just to ensure we boarded the 10am train back to Kaduna after attending an Investigative and Data Journalism Training organised by Daily Trust Foundation between November 25 and 29. Breaking News: Orji Kalu convicted of 7.2 billion fraud

A Federal High Court in Lagos on Thursday found a former Governor of Abia, Uzor Kalu, guilty of 39 counts of fraud. A-Court reduces Kalu was charged alongside  Jones Udeogo, the state  Commissioner for Finance during his tenure as the governor. Kalu’s  company, Slok Nig. Ltd., was also a defendant in the suit. While Kalu and his company were convicted on all the 39 counts of the fraud charge, Udeogo was found guilty of 34 counts. Details later…

Life pension scheme for ex-governors

Last week, a letter written by ex-Governor of Zamfara State, Abdul-Aziz Yari, to the incumbent, Bello Matawalle, demanding the payment of his N10m monthly upkeep allowance sparked public outrage and caused the state governor to sponsor a bill for the abrogation of the law making it mandatory for the payment of such mindless sums of money amidst the misery of the people of the state.
